The Psychiatry SCDU of the AOU Maggiore della Carità of Novara – University of Piemonte Orientale is organising a “celebration” of World Mental Health Day.
The event, attended by Carla Maria Gramaglia (a member of the MiDiS Scientific Committee and a professor at DIMET), also addresses issues related to migration. Foreign patients—whether migrants or refugees—are in a particular situation, as they may be exposed to discrimination on the basis of their status, which can be further compounded when they are also experiencing psychological distress. This is compounded by challenges related to different cultural understandings of psychological distress and mental illness; knowledge of healthcare services in a broader sense; and awareness of and access to psychiatric services.
