Conflicts, humanitarian crises, climate change and deep-rooted inequalities are forcing an unprecedented number of people to leave their homelands.
Understanding the dynamics of forced migration means examining not only its global dimensions, but also the demographic, social and political consequences for countries of origin, transit and destination.
This event, organised as part of Neodemos’ Mutamenti series in collaboration with Fondazione Invernizzi, offers an opportunity to reflect on the main global patterns of forced migration: the distribution of refugees, the areas most severely affected by crises, the role of international institutions, and the outlook for European and Italian policies.
The discussion will be enriched by the participation of Filippo Grandi, former United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), who, together with Massimo Livi Bacci (Accademia dei Lincei and Neodemos), Irene Ponzo (MiDiS Centre at the University of Eastern Piedmont) and Daria Mendola (University of Palermo), will share first-hand insights into the operational and institutional challenges of providing reception and protection on a global scale.
Starting from the international perspective, the focus will then shift to the Italian context, examining in detail the characteristics of the foreign population and presenting the findings of the latest studies on the profile of refugees in Italy.
The event is part of the in-depth exploration that Mutamenti devotes to the major demographic changes shaping our time, offering insights and analytical tools to understand the transformations redefining societies in the twenty-first century.
The recording of the conference will be available on the Fondazione Invernizzi YouTube channel in the days following the event.
