For years, public debate has contrasted “regular” and “irregular” migration, urging those who wish to come to Europe to use legal channels. But how accessible are these channels in practice? What options does a person living on another continent have today to obtain a visa to enter Italy without relying on informal networks or smugglers? Does the Decreto Flussi really serve as a tool for migration planning?
Speakers include Mons. Pierpaolo Felicolo, Director General of Fondazione Migrantes; Irene Ponzo (MiDiS Deputy director and DISSTE); Francesco Mason, ASGI and Ero Straniero Campaign; and Lamine Sow, CGIL Piemonte – Immigration. The discussion will be moderated by Alberto Chiara, journalist.
The meeting is part of the Festival dell’Accoglienza, which was launched in 2020 on the initiative of the Migrants’ Pastoral Ministry of the Archdiocese of Turin (UPM) to strengthen its work of reflection and awareness-raising. It provides an opportunity to pause and reflect on the deeper meanings of the verb “to welcome”, on welcoming, and on the obstacles and challenges involved in building inclusive and cohesive communities.
