The Interdisciplinary Centre for Research and Training on Migration, Diversity and Sustainable development (MiDiS) carries out research and training activities on the transformations of contemporary societies — social, political, cultural, demographic, environmental, technological — connected to human mobility, both international and internal, as well as to cultural diversity by fostering synergies and collaborations across disciplines and between scholars and practitioners.
MiDiS brings together all UPO Departments:
Health Sciences (DISS)
Humanities (DISUM)
Law and Political, Economic and Social Sciences (DIGSPES)
Pharmaceutical Sciences (DSF)
Science and Technological Innovation (DISIT)
Studies for Economy and Business (DISEI)
Translational Medicine (DIMET)
Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition (DISSTE)
In line with the strategic priorities of UPO, MiDiS' activity is driven four “I”s:
Interdisciplinarity. MiDiS aims to foster integration across disciplines, including those belonging to very diverse scientific fields (social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, medical sciences, ITC, etc.), by connecting the expertise and talents already present at UPO and by attracting and retaining new ones, especially among younger generations.
Internationalisation. Innovation requires constant dialogue with the international scientific community, which is pursued through exchanges of researchers and students, participation in international networks, agreements with foreign universities, and international partnership projects.
Innovation. Interdisciplinarity and internationalisation are conceived as drivers of innovation, understood as a transformative process capable of contributing to the development of new responses to the challenges facing contemporary societies in relation to migration and cultural diversity.
Impact. MiDiS aims to ensure that innovation does not remain confined to the scientific world, but instead generates an impact on real-world processes, whether highly localised or global in scope, above all through dialogue with society as a whole, from public decision-makers to businesses and civil society.
